In addition to popular resorts like Salou it’s just extraordinarily beautiful: mountains, rugged cliffs, vineyards and almond trees alternate with intimate towns.
It’s not surprising that the gold coast is popular with tourists; with well-known resorts such as Salou and Cambrils, there’s always something to do, be it shopping, parties or just chilling out by the pool or sea. Salou is especially popular with young people – it’s full of shops, restaurants and cafes. Cambrils is a little quieter and here you will find great shopping streets, a beautiful harbour full of fishing boats and you can get your own boat to Tarragona!
Tarragona is full to the brim of historic buildings; see the remains of the Roman Comitium, the amphitheatre from the second century, the city wall and other original artefacts. When you’re stood at the viewpoint ‘El Balcó del Mediterrani’ you overlook the harbour, town and sea. If you’re interested in Gaudí then at Reus you can find the Gaudí Centre, where you will learn all about the architect who grew up there. Also there are many water parks, the Port Aventura theme park and a zoo around the corner makes a holiday on the Costa Dorada complete for your whole family.

Escalivada is a very tasty and healthy dish; a specialty of this region, prepared with grilled eggplant and peppers, cooked with olive oil and garlic. A simple dish but very good. Also try Catalan mussels and ‘Jamon Iberico’.
