In the great museum Naturalis in Leiden you can find out all about the history of nature. These include collections of fossils, insects, minerals and gemstones. The children will be particularly impressed by the huge skeletons of a dinosaur and a mammoth.
Taste ‘Hutspot’ from Leiden (vegetable stew), ‘Schiedam jenever’ (gin), 'Haagsche Hopjes' sweets, the fish of Scheveningen and the grapes of Westland. South Holland offers many typical dishes and products. Gouda is the most famous and most popular cheese in the Netherlands.
The centre of The Hague is a great destination for a day of shopping, with many clothing and footwear shops for every budget, from high fashion exclusive to the better known big brands to the boutique of contemporary design. You can shop in the shopping district 'Haagsche Bluf' or in the elegant ‘Denneweg’.
