Kayaking on the river Gacka

If you have ever wanted to explore the beauty of the stunning Plitvice Lakes on your way to the equally striking coastal regions of Croatia, why not make a stop at Big Bear Plitvice Camping Resort! Ideally located inland in the Kvarner-Lika region, this campsite is the perfect base for visiting Plitvice Lakes by bike or car.

Recently developed, Big Bear features comfortable mobile homes and a new restaurant featuring local cuisine.

Big Bear

You’ll receive a warm and friendly welcome by the hospitable staff when you arrive at Big Bear. As the campsite is located in the heart of nature, you can enjoy a variety of outdoor pursuits. Top of the list should be a visit to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. It’s very popular in the summer so buying your ticket ahead of time is advised. Make use of the well-marked cycle paths and ride easily to the park from the campsite by bicycle in around 1 hour.

If you want to explore your limits, why not have a go at flying over the rugged forest on zip lines or take a paddling trip in a transparent kayak over the Gacka River! With so much activity, you’ll quickly work up a hunger… so refuel with some tasty local specialities in the campsite restaurant at the end of the day.

Big Bear Plitvice Camping Resort setting

The extraordinary enchanting nature of the Plitvice Lakes National Park is of course the biggest draw here. The fairy-tale-like deep blue-green colour of the water that flows from lake to lake via waterfalls cannot be described. Unfortunately, the original inhabitants of this area, bears, are still being hunted. That is why volunteers have started a bear shelter in Kuterevo where you can take a closer look at these impressive animals. For a rainy day the beautiful cave of Grabovaca is a good idea (bring good shoes and a sweater).
