The area surrounding La Plaine Tonique Campsite
In the eastern French Province of Ain you will find many picturesque villages and beautiful lakes. The trading town of Bourg-en-Bresse, which is well known for its Bresse Galouise chickens, is situated not far from the campsite. Don’t miss out on the chance to taste one of the many delicious chicken specialities in any of the cosy restaurants in town! There are more places to visit to the south of Bourg-en-Bresse including Villars-les-Dombes with its vast bird park and St-Paul-de-Varax with its famous palace. The Ain River meanders through the surrounding landscape close by the campsite. The river has been tamed through impoundments here and there to create new landscapes and reservoirs including the Lac de Vouglans Reservoir and its spectacular little gorges. Mâcon is definitely the most popular place in the area which perhaps has something to do with wine!
And don’t forget to have a look at the “wooden house” on the corner of the Place aux Herbes, a renaissance building fantastically adorned with engraved columns and statues. To sum it up: nature and culture enthusiasts will feel completely at home in this beautiful region.
